چکیده

Segmentation of the Guyanas continental margin South America is inherited from dual-phase Mesozoic rifting history controlling first-order post-rift sedimentary architecture. The divided into two segments by a transform marginal plateau (TMP), Demerara Rise, Central and Equatorial Atlantic domains. This paper investigates heterogeneities in systems at mega-regional scale (>1000 km). Re-sampling seven key exploration wells scientific boreholes provides new data (189 analysed samples) that have been used to build high-resolution stratigraphic framework using multiple biostratigraphic techniques integrated with organic geochemistry refine timing 10 surfaces three megasequences. results calibrate interpretation margin-scale two-dimensional seismic reflection dataset, megasequence isochore maps, structural restorations gross depositional environment maps time intervals evolution. Rift migration explains continental margin asymmetry and crustal hyper-extension

When continents break apart, continental crust and lithosphere are thinned until break-up is achieved and an oceanic basin is formed. The most remarkable and least understood structures associated with this process are up to 200 km wide areas of hyper-extended continental crust, which are partitioned between conjugate margins with pronounced asymmetry. Here we show, using high-resolution thermo...

Continental rift

The azure-winged magpie (Cyanopica cyanus), has long presented a puzzle for biologists. The naturalist Alfred Wallace was one of the first to consider it. The puzzle lies in its extraordinary distribution. It exists in two distinct locations: Iberia and eastern Asia, 9,000 kilometres apart. Two alternative theories have been put forward to explain this curious distribution. The first proposes t...
